World Day of Prayer for Vocations

The retiring collection will be for the Priest’s Training Fund. In St. Peter’s, half of the total collected supports the Rosminians, and half is for the Archdiocese of Cardiff.

Today, we also welcome the children from St. Peter’s Primary School who will be taking part in our 9.30 Mass.

 

NEXT SUNDAY

Fr Fabian Adindu from the Spiritans will celebrate both Masses while Fr Tony is away. This is the annual Mission Appeal in support of the young church, which Fr Fabian will be talking about. Please be generous at the retiring collection.

 

WELCOME!

We have appointed Dee Blackwood as our Office and Hall Administrator. She will be working in the Presbytery from

Monday to Thursday, 9.15 am - 1.15 pm.

 

CHURCH SHOP

We stock a wide range of Holy Communion and Confirmation cards & gifts and lots more. We are open on Sunday

mornings and also every Monday to Thursday from 10.30 am - 12.30 pm.

 

LUNCHEON CLUB

The Community Hall committee are looking to offer a weekly Luncheon Club every Thursday starting on 7th June (at 12 noon). To assess possible numbers, please sign the clipboard in the porch if you're interested in attending. The two course lunch with tea/coffee will cost £5.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Don’t forget that the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for prayer and adoration from 10.30 am to 8 pm every Wednesday here in St. David’s Chapel (entrance through the Bedford Street gate). On the second Monday of each month, there’s exposition from 1.30 - 2.30 pm in St. Joseph’s, New Zealand Road, with particular emphasis on healing family difficulties. PRAYER CORPS

The prayer sheets are available at the back of the church. Please take copies to any parishioners you know who cannot join us regularly for Mass. Let Fr Tony know of anyone who would like Holy Communion brought to them at home.

 

RESTORATION ENVELOPES

These, commencing April, can now be collected from the Church shop.

 

GIFT AID

The envelopes for the next tax year are now in the porch. If you are a tax-payer and not yet part of the Gift Aid scheme, please speak to William Rees who will be at the table in the Porch after both Masses. This is a simple way of increasing your support for the parish by 25% using tax transfers

 

MISSIO RED BOXES

These are to be opened this month by our Parish Promoters whose names are on the boxes. Please do not leave any boxes in the church or at the presbytery or hand them to our priests. Individual arrangements are made to collect monies and boxes may be left in the shop. If you would like a Mission Box or have any queries please ring 2049 4003. Read how the donations are used in Mission Today magazine. Last year over £3,000 was in our parish boxes. Even small donations are important.

 

PILGRIMAGE TO OBERAMMERGAU 2020

The adult education department of the diocese is running a pilgrimage to the Oberammergau Passion Play, travelling from Cardiff across Europe by coach and visiting shrines and other sites including Ghent, Namur, Cologne, and Amstedam. The tour dates are Wednesday 16th - Thursday 24th September 2020. Places are limited and can be reserved now.

“CELEBRATE” WALES CONFERENCE 2018"

This is a Catholic Charismatic Family weekend designed to bring together families of all ages to celebrate the Faith we share and to experience something different in our worship and praise of God. This weekend has provision for all ages and especially provides a packed programme for children as young as 3 and up to teens. CATHOLIC BIBLE SCHOOL

On Saturday, 28th April from 10 - 3pm at St. David’s Priory, Swansea, SA1 3NG, a day of reflection, worship and Bible study will be led by Alan de Ste Croix. The topic will be ‘Our Lady in the Bible’. Please bring a packed lunch; tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. This is a free event but a donation towards costs is appreciated.

 

SPUC ANNUAL SILENT - KERBSIDE CHAIN

This will take place between 11 am and 1pm this Saturday (28th) at the cross-roads, Manor Way, Whitchurch.

 

ROSARY ON THE COAST

Further to the advert last week, the location for this has been changed to the beach at Llantwit Major, where we shall be joining the Cardiff Oratory and St. Teilo's Parish from 2 - 2.30pm on 29th April. For further details, speak to William at the presbytery.

 

TOUCHSTONE TALKS

The next talk will be held on Sunday, 29th April at 3.00 pm in the TICS Lecture Theatre at St. David’s Catholic College, Ty Gwyn Road, Penylan and is entitled “Christianity and Conflict: how current affairs bear on our self-understanding”. MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

Do you deal with members of the public who may be suffering from mental health issues? Are you unsure how best to respond? The Archdiocese of Cardiff is subsidising a 2-day Mental Health First Aid course which will run 11am - 5pm on Friday 15th and Friday 22nd June. The course runs in parallel at two venues on the same dates, in Cardiff at the Pastoral Resources Centre, and in Pontypool at St. Alban's High School. You can learn more and book online via the Diocesan Website RCADC.org; if you don't have web access, call Madeline Page on 029 2036 5965. The course normally costs £120 but the diocese is making it available at £30 per person. There are currently 9 spaces available in Pontypool and 4 in Cardiff, so do book quickly.

 

 

 

MARCH FOR LIFE

This family-friendly life-fest start at 9.30 am on Saturday, 5th May at De Vere Connaught Rooms, 61-65 Great Queen Street, London, WC2B 5DA. There will be a children’s zone, music, workshops, Confessions, stalls and much more. The march to Parliament Square commences at 1 pm. The day ends at 4.15 pm. The Dar Ul Isra mosque in Wyeverne Road are planning a major fund raising event on Sunday 6th May. Details to follow

 

SOLEMN VESPERS AND BENEDICTION

Please join us for the beautiful and reverent ceremony of Solemn Vespers and Benediction, which will take place once a month, starting on Sunday, 6th May, at 6 pm. This involves exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, whilst the psalms and prayers of Vespers are chanted by a Cantor and the people, and ends with benediction. The Liturgy is ancient and its use in Catholic churches was encouraged by Vatican II. It is also a great way to introduce people to the faith and get them interested in Catholicism, so feel free to bring friends, both Catholic and non-Catholic alike.

ASCENSION THURSDAY

Last year, the Bishops of England and Wales restored the Solemnity of the Ascension to its traditional position -

40 days after the Resurrection, according to Scripture. For many years it has been observed on the Sunday following that date. Thursday, 10th May, therefore, will be a holy day of obligation and Masses are at 10 am and 7pm here in St. Peter’s

 

PENTECOST SUNDAY - INTERNATIONAL MASSES (20th MAY)

Once again, we seek to mark the rich diversity that makes up our Parish, by celebrating International Masses on Pentecost Sunday. St. Peter's Primary School will be organising the proceedings for the 9.30 am Mass, followed by a tasty reception in the School Hall. For the 11.30 Mass, we welcome as many national costumes and flags as we can get. After Mass, we propose a choice of national dishes for lunch in the Community Hall, followed by entertainment from our different cultures. To assess support, please sign the clipboard if you can provide a national dish and a

second clipboard is for those who can offer appropriate traditional music or dance.

SEPTEMBER PILGRIMAGE 2018

A few vacancies are available for the 2018 Pilgrimage on 1st - 8th September with Canon Matthew Jones. The pilgrimage will be a spiritual and historical exploration of the North-East of England. We visit the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne, centre of 7th century St Aiden and St Cuthbert's missionary work; Durham with its magnificent Cathedral, resting place of Sts Cuthbert and Bede; Bede's monastery at Jarrow; St Wilfrid's Hexham Abbey and

FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTIONS

Join us in St David’s Chapel on Fridays from 3 - 4pm for Chaplet of Divine Mercy, silent Adoration and Devotion for the Nine First Fridays. All are welcome

CATENIANS “ROUNDABOUT” MAGAZINE

At the back of Church “Roundabout” magazines, published by the Catenian Association, are available to take away for free. The magazine looks at the deeds of the Catenian Association in South Wales and the West of England.

If you have difficulty in getting to and from Mass on Sundays, please contact the office and we will put out an appeal in the newsletter to see if there’s anyone in your area who can pick you up (and take you back home!). You never know, there may be someone living very close by who is coming here anyway and can help you out
